In Soviet times, clubs, sections and courses were not only a form of leisure, but also helped to determine the choice of profession.

Those who dreamed of becoming an engineer, went to the circles of young technicians and mastered the design even before entering the university. Even after lessons, young mathematicians remained to study their favorite subject. Animal lovers were enrolled in biologists' circles or pet protection organizations.

Almost all schools at that time had choral groups. In the USSR, school, district and city songs were held annually.

Technical clubs and circles were widely spread; their work included radio electronics, automatics, telemechanics, biochemistry, genetics, astronautics.

In Soviet times, sports sections were popular, as well as skillful hands (burning, carving, chasing, art painting, cutting and sewing, soft toys, knitting, macrame). In the coastal cities worked clubs of young sailors with their fleets and steamboats. There were even special film studios for children and children's railways.
