In the Chinese ancient city of Shima, a pit with skulls was excavated. It was located at the base of the stepped pyramid.

After studying the skulls, scientists concluded that part of the remains belonged to residents of another city. It is assumed that these are prisoners who were sacrificed.

The pyramid is decorated with images of eyes and faces with features of people and animals simultaneously. It consists of 11 steps. On its top, there were previously buildings with wooden pillars and tiled roofs, huge water tanks.

According to archaeologists, the artifacts found indicate that the rulers of the city lived at the top of the pyramid. They believe that they also offered sacrifices as gifts.
