Probably, during the restoration work from one of the searchlights the curtains caught fire, the fire quickly spread. Nine rooms completely burned down, more than 100 rooms were seriously damaged.

Not only fire caused damage to the castle, but also the water with which it was extinguished. The question also arose of who would pay for the restoration of the castle, since, like other public buildings, it was not insured.

It was decided that the money would be collected by charging for visiting Buckingham Palace and the park surrounding Windsor Castle. The recovery of these damage ended in 1997. The entire repair of Windsor Castle was $ 53 million.
