Today among collectors of old books there are several types of collectors of a bookmark.
Representatives of the more traditional type see ex libris as a special owner's logo, which is a decoration of the book. Gatherers of the second type more value the graphic features of such antiques, its decorative solution. They consider bookplate a kind of work of art. In addition, there is an intermediate stratum of collectors who combine these points of view.
Anyway, the gathering of book signs is a secondary phenomenon, because the old book and bibliophilism remains the primary, causal in this matter.
