In 1800, the international music publisher Edition Peters was founded in Leipzig. Its creators were composer Franz Anton Hofmeister and organist Ambrosius Kunel. Today is one of the oldest music publishers in the world.

In 1887, the novel "Etude in Scarlet Colors" was published, the first book about Sherlock Holmes.

1891 - Canadian-American teacher, trainer and innovator James Naismith invented the game of basketball. He worked as a physical education teacher at the Springfield International Training School in the United States. James created a similar ball game in the hall in search of increasing the physical activity of students in the winter. The first officially registered basketball game took place in December 1891. He passed not quite familiar to us. Naismith's teams had 9 people each, and they played a soccer ball. The news of the new sports game spread all over America, and soon the college where Naismith taught taught many letters, the authors of which asked to send them the rules of the game.

1945 - The Prokommunisticheskoe Women's International Organization is founded. It was created at the International Women's Congress in Paris. In 1974, 112 national women’s organizations from 97 countries of the world entered the WFWR. Soviet Women in WIDF represented the Committee of Soviet Women.

1959 - The Antarctic Treaty is concluded, according to which the use of Antarctica for any military purposes is prohibited.

In 2009, the Treaty of Lisbon entered into force in the European Union.
