The missing cargo ship Sam Ratulangi PB 1600 was discovered off the coast of Myanmar in Martaban Bay. The ship went to its last flight in 2009, after which it disappeared. The vessel drifted for a long time at sea, but the trimming of the cables on the bow indicates that it was pulled in tow not so long ago.

The police of the city of Yangon in Myanmar on August 30, 2018 published a message about a ghost ship that ran aground in the morning of Martaban near the beach near the coastal village the morning before. It was the cargo ship Sam Ratulangi PB 1600. Several Tatmadaw (Myanmar Navy) officers took aboard, but they did not find either a crew or cargo. The ship was in poor condition, but kept afloat.

The photographs taken on board show dirt and rust everywhere on the deck, remnants of the structures to which the containers were attached, and long-term radar equipment. The engine was damaged, and part of the engine room - flooded with sea water with a large admixture of engine oil. Life jackets and lifeboats hung in their seats, no one tried to use them.

Records of the last known Sam Ratulangi flight dated 2009. At first it was not clear where the ship spent nine years and whether it drifted into the sea all this time. However, the main clue was found on the nose of the ship: there were fixed relatively new ropes intended for towing. They were cut, but now it became clear that you need to look for a tug that could still be somewhere in the sea. If it were not for this evidence, crazy theories could still appear around the ship.

It turns out that the tugboat pulled the ship from Indonesia to Bangladesh to a factory where it was supposed to be sorted and recycled. In previous years, Sam Ratulangi did not go to sea at all. However, on August 26, when the ships moved past Yangon, a violent storm began. After several hours of trying to move, no matter what, the Indonesian sailors realized that it would be safer to leave their cargo.

They cut the ropes holding the ship in tow and set off to calmer waters. So in the Gulf of Martaban appeared ghost ship without a single person on board. Why after the storm the Indonesians did not come back to pick it up, they did not explain. The Tatmadaw is still investigating, but thanks to the ropes the main mystery of the ship has already been solved.
