June 22: Greenwich Observatory, Second Compiegne Armistice and "the hand of God"

June 22, 1675 in Greenwich, near London, King of England Charles II founded the Royal Observatory. The meridian passing through the observatory was accepted by the British sailors for the zero, but only at the end of the 19th century it became the international norm - before the zero meridian took the meridian of the departure port.
1815 - after losing the battle of Waterloo and not being able to assemble a new army, in Paris Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte second time abdicated in favor of his four-year-old son of Napoleon II, which was officially reported two days later.

1910 - the first passenger airline in Europe was opened - on the Friedrichshafen-Düsseldorf route the airship "Germany" was shuttled.
1916 - German troops at Fleury (France) for the first time used a new poison gas phosgene ("Green Cross").

1978 - American astrophysicist James Christie discovered the first moon of Pluto, Charon. According to modern data, Pluto and Charon are considered as a double planet, which moves around the common center of mass.

1986 - at the 51st minute of the quarterfinal match of the 1986 FIFA World Cup in the stadium "Azteca" in Mexico City, Argentinian Diego Maradona scored one of his most famous goals - in the match "the hand of God" sent the ball into the goal of the England team.
1990 - after the separation of Berlin by a wall in Friedrichstraße, the checkpoint Charlie (Checkpoint Charley), the famous crossing point from West to East Berlin, was opened.
