On December 23, 1913, Igor Sikorsky rose to a height of more than 2000 meters on the outskirts of Kiev on a multi-engine Ilya Muromets aircraft. Subsequently, this aircraft will become the predecessor for passenger aircraft and bombers.

In March 1912, for the C-6A aircraft at the Moscow Sikorsky Aeronautics Exhibition, they were awarded the Big Gold Medal of the Russian Technical Society. The head of the “Russian-Baltic Carriage Plant”, Mikhail Shidlovsky, proposes a Kiev citizen to be the chief designer, who agrees.

Sikorsky ignites the idea to build a "giant air ship." Shydlouski finances the project of the revolutionary aircraft, provided that the successful inventions will belong to the plant.

In the fall of 1913, the aircraft designer proceeded to the construction of his most successful heavy aircraft. Calls him "Ilya Muromets."

100-horsepower engine "Argus", wingspan of 31 meters and with a total area of ​​150 square meters. Immediately planning it passenger and comfortable. In addition to the pilot's cabin, there was a room for passengers, a bedroom, and even a toilet.

For two months, Sikorsky lifts the Ilya of Murom into the air with 16 passengers on board. It flies over it over the imperial capital and its suburbs. The giant plane struck Tsar Nicholas II so much that it gives the young designer a gold watch. And it orders a full fleet of heavy bombers for the Imperial Aviation Service.
