When carrying out repairs on Hannah Barvinok Street in Lviv, matzevs - Jewish tombstones - were identified.

Repair work began in the middle of the month. The damaged sections of the road were cut out, the builders were preparing for their reconstruction.

In one of the pits, local residents saw fragments of Jewish tombstones. They appealed to the organization "Chesed Arie".

After that, the volunteers followed a petition to the local administration about the temporary cessation of construction work.

At the moment, 15 mats were seized, but about 100 remains under asphalt. They paved the whole street.

According to researchers, these tombstones belonged to members of the pre-war Jewish community of Lviv. This is indicated by the dates that are carved on the plates.

It is believed that the streets were paved with these matzas during the occupation of the city during the Second World War.
