99-year-old Englishwoman Phyllis Ponting was engaged to Bill Walker, just before the start of World War II. After that, Bill went to the front. Since then, she has not heard anything about him. And now to the Phillies, who had already become a great-grandmother, a letter came with words of love, sent 77 years ago.

Before the war, the Phillies concluded an engagement with Bill Walker. Soon after, Billy went to the front. He was sent to India — and Phyllis never saw him again.

A letter from the groom was found at the bottom of the ocean and raised to the surface along with the remains of the merchant ship “Geirsop”, which was submerged by a German submarine in 1941. It was one of more than 700 letters found in the hold of the sunk ship.

All these years, Phyllis asked herself the question: so what did happen to Bill? And even now she finally does not believe in his death.

Now Phyllis has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. After Bill Walker's letter to the Phillies was found on a ship that was flooded during the war, the researchers were able to find it.

Recently, a representative from the London Post Office Museum arrived and handed her a copy of the letter. “I can’t believe that I can read a letter raised from the bottom of the sea,” said Phyllis.
