Specialists of the National Archaeological Museum of Spain in 2016 conducted a scan of ancient Egyptian mummies.

4 exhibits were sent for examination. Mummies were removed from the museum collection for only 15 hours so that visitors would not notice their absence. The same instruments were used for scanning as for the usual hospital patients.

It turned out that one of the mummies, which was covered with precious stones, was the priest Nespamedu, the personal eye doctor of Pharaoh Ptolemy II and, possibly, also Ptolemy III.

Thanks to the results of tomography, it was established that Nespamedu was a priest who lived between 300 BC. and 200 BC and worked at the Imhotep-Asclepius Clinic at Sakkara Serapeum (Memphis) or at Alexandria.

The mummy was wrapped in bandages, amulets and images of the goddesses Isis and Nephthys, as well as the Eyes of Horus and the god Thoth were placed between them. This is symbolic, since, according to mythology, the god Gore lost an eye and cured him. He was considered the patron saint of eye doctors.

The results for the rest of the exhibits have not yet been made public.
