In the Belgian commune in the church of Saint Ludger, a painting was stolen by unknown persons, the alleged author of which is Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Interpol data show that the picture disappeared from the church on January 11, between 5:00 and 6:00 local time. Two parishioners who laid flowers on the altar noticed the loss. The thief allegedly made his way into the building through the sacristy.

One of the women drew attention to a suspicious young man near the church. As soon as she lit up the lantern to see it, he ran away.

Pastor Jan Van Reymdonk shared his suspicions about the authorship of the painting only with a limited circle of people - family, friends, and church council. He also sent several emails to the museum, but he never received a reply. In the end, he suggested that his mail was hacked.

Michelangelo’s Maria Forchellino, a leading expert on the creation of Michelangelo, was invited to the church, but a few days before her arrival, the painting was gone.

It is also assumed that there could be several criminals, and they were interested only in the picture, since other things in the church turned out to be intact.
