June 28: Lublin union, Sarajevo murder and Oleg Blokhin's farewell match

June 28, 1569 between the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is the Lublin Union, which gave rise to a new federative state known as the Commonwealth.

1651 - near the town of Berestechko (now - the Volyn region) between the Zaporozhye Army under the command of Bogdan Khmelnytsky and the allied Crimean Tatar army of Islam III Gerai on the one hand and the army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth under the command of Jan Kazimir II on the other, the largest battle of the Ukrainian-Polish war took place which was attended by about 300,000 people from both sides.

1664 - actor of the wandering troupe Jean Baptiste Poklen first appeared on stage under the pseudonym Moliere. His new name he subsequently glorified as a playwright.

1902 - The US Congress approved the Law on the construction of a canal on the Isthmus of Panama, and thus gave the president powers to purchase from the French Panamanian company the rights to build a canal and Colombia's right to perpetual management of the canal zone.

1914 - in Sarajevo, Gavrila the Principal was assassinated by the Austrian successor to the throne of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife (Sarajevo murder), which was the reason for the outbreak of World War I.

1919 - the Treaty of Versailles was signed, which concluded the First World War.

1941 - by the order of the US President Franklin Roosevelt, the Office for Scientific Research and Development was created, the main task of which was the creation of nuclear weapons.

1940 - Great Britain recognized General de Gaulle as leader of the Free France movement and immediately engaged in the creation of a new French armed forces.

1989 - a farewell match of Oleg Blokhin took place in Kiev at the Republican stadium. The Soviet team met with the world team. The match ended with a score of 3-3 and Blokhin scored a goal in the 90th minute with a penalty.

1993 - in accordance with the decision of the Latvian Committee for Monetary Reform, a full transition to the lat has been made in monetary settlements since that day.

1996 - at 9:20 in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the Constitution of Ukraine was adopted. For its text, 315 deputies voted, against - 16. This happened at the longest plenary meeting, which continued for 23 hours and ended at dawn.
