February 15 - this day in history

On February 15, 1763, Prussia, Austria and Saxony signed the Hubertusburg peace treaty, one of two deals (along with the Peace of Paris) that ended the Seven Years War. The signing of the treaty marked the victory of Prussia and its ally Britain in Europe, assigned the territory of Silesia to Prussia and strengthened its position as one of the leading European states.

1898 - the battleship "Maine" exploded in obscure circumstances in the port of Havana, which arrived here to protect the Americans during a Cuban patriots' anti-Hispanic demonstration - the ship sank and 260 members of its crew were killed.

1913 - the first exhibition of avant-garde art opened in New York.

1922 - Guglielmo Marconi began a regular broadcast of radio programs from Essex.

1945 - the intensive two-day raid of Anglo-American aviation on Dresden ended, which almost completely destroyed the entire city and led to the death of at least 25,000 people.

1963 - Federico Fellini’s movie “8 1/2” was released on the screens of cinemas in Italy with Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Cardinale, Anuque Ame, Sandra Milo. The following year, he won the Oscar for best foreign film of the year.

1971 - IBM announced a floppy disk for storing information - a floppy disk with a diameter of 8"(200 mm). Floppy disks, the size of which was subsequently reduced 3.5" (90 mm) were massively distributed until the late 1990s, giving way to a more capacious CD and convenient flash drives.

1989 - the leadership of the USSR announced that the last Soviet soldier had left the territory of Afghanistan - the more than nine-year military intervention of the Soviet Union in the neighboring state, in which the civil war continues today, ended.
