February 19 - this day in history

On February 19, 1878, Thomas Alva Edison patented a music player known today as the “phonograph”. The machine, which Edison created during the year, read data from a lead rotary cylinder with a needle. The first song played on the phonograph was “Mary Had a Little Lamb”.

1915 - With the support of the aviation of the Ottoman coastal fortifications near the town of Kumkale on the eastern shore of the Aegean Sea, the Dardanelles operation began, with the main events of which were the battles on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

1938 - The world's first drifting polar station, the North Pole-1, finished its work. The icebreaking steamers Taimyr and Murman removed four wintering men for the 70th latitude, a few dozen kilometers from the coast of Greenland.

1964 - Jacques Demi's film “Cherbourg Umbrellas” appeared on French screens, starring Catherine Deneuve.
