It would seem just pieces of stone, but architect Matthew Simmonds manages to create amazing architectural spaces in them. One of his favorite themes is medieval architecture, which, strictly speaking, he emphasizes in his sculptures.

In his works, he achieves incredible detail. Capitals, vaults and marble surfaces distort and reflect light in miniature sections of ancient interiors.

At one time he graduated from the Faculty of Art History at East University of England, where he specialized in art and architecture of the medieval period. After graduation, he worked for a long time as a restorer of major English national monuments (Westminster Abbey and the cathedrals of Salisbury and Eli). He was engaged in carving of classical marble ornaments.

The first recognition of his sculptural work he received in 1999 after winning the second international symposium of sculpture in Verona.
