During the construction of the section of the North Caucasian Railway in the Krasnodar Territory, archaeologists managed to find a golden stater. According to scientists, this is only the third copy of this type in the world.

The discovery of the coin belongs to a group of archaeologists from Saratov. These are members of the expedition of the SIC for the preservation of cultural heritage.

According to the press officer of the Museum-Reserve named after E. Felitsyn, the weight of the coin is about 8 grams, the size is about 20x21 mm. She dated approximately 27-28 years of our era.

Experts suggest that the discovered stater was minted during the reign of the Bosporan king Aspurg. This is indicated by the monogram on the reverse of the coin.

The obverse depicts the Roman emperor Tiberius, on the reverse - Agripp, who died in 12 AD, statesman, commander and son-in-law of the first Roman emperor Octavian Augustus.

Such staters were used as a means of payment on the territory of the Bosporian kingdom - the ancient state in the Northern Black Sea region in the Cimmerian Bosporus (Kerch Strait).

“This is the rarest archeological artifact: at the moment only two specimens of the same type are known in the world, the third will now be in the funds of the E. Felitsyn Museum. It will be handed over to specialists of the state protection management of cultural heritage sites in Krasnodar Territory,” said an employee of the E.Felitsyn Museum.
