In the 1950s-70s, French scientist, historian and member of the Communist Party of France, Jacques Dupacier, visited the USSR three times. In 1956, among other things, he visited the Uzbek SSR.

After several days in Moscow, he and the tourist group went to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. They flew on old screw aircraft that did not rise above 3200 meters. With bated breath, the Frenchman spent hours watching Soviet Central Asia.

In 1956, Tashkent was a large city with a single avenue built according to the Stalinist fashion. After 10 years, much of this was destroyed by an earthquake.

Jacques Dupacier, walking around the city, saw the market, the women who were wrapped in blankets, visited the mosque, met with officials.
