Fountains and lots of greenery: Obolon in Kiev in retro shots of the 1980s

The construction of Obolon in Kiev took place in accordance with the 1967 Kyiv General Development Plan. Since 1970 - industrial zones, since 1972 - a residential area with the central highway Obolonsky Avenue. The main part of Obolon was built up in the period from 1973 to 1980.
The metro line was combined with the center of Obolon - in 1980 Petrovka and Prospect Korneychuk stations (later renamed Obolon) were opened, and in 1982, Minskaya and Geroev Dnepra stations.
In 1981, for the project of engineering preparation of the territory of the residential area “Obolon”, the staff of the state enterprise “Kievproject” was awarded the Prize of the USSR Council of Ministers.
