The Royal Mint of Great Britain issued a 50 pence coin in honor of the famous scientist Stephen Hawking. It depicts a black hole, which was one of the subjects of research of the English theoretical physicist, cosmologist and writer.
“I tried to put a big black hole on a tiny coin and would like Stephen Hawking to still be here to laugh at it,” said Edwina Ellis, who designed the coin.
Coins in honor of the scientist are made of different alloys. Their cost varies from 10 to 795 pounds. The entire circulation of coins at the time of release has already been reserved.
