Podolie is a historical-geographical region of Ukraine covering the territory of modern Vinnitsa, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil and Odessa regions. Also, small adjacent parts of Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Kirovograd regions.

In the XIX century, as part of the Podolsk province included 12 counties. In the period from the 1820s to the 1830s, uprisings led by Ustim Karmelyuk took place on the Podillia.

During World War I, Podillia became the site of hostilities for the troops of the Entente and the Fourth Alliance. This caused enormous agricultural and human losses.

These photographs show Podolia at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century. They show how Podilians lived, what they wore, what they did.
