In the summer of 2017, two search engines found a treasure of 14th century silver coins during a search of military ammunition around the city of Erlangen, Germany.

At first they hid the find from the authorities, but after a few months they reported it. This allowed them to avoid criminal punishment. For an attempt to hide the treasure, search engines paid a fine.

Coins are the largest find in the state of Baden-Württemberg over the past 30 years and one of the largest in Germany.

The treasure was handed over to research specialists in the protection of monuments. In the ground, the coins stuck together. They had to be separated from each other and cleaned.

Experts suggest that the treasure was buried, probably in 1300. Then with this money it was possible to buy a whole peasant farmstead.

Most of the coins are silver gellers minted in Stuttgart, some in Würzburg, Augsburg, Constance and in France.
