The Bible of King Jacob is a translation of the Bible into English, made under the patronage of the King of England Jacob I and released in 1611. Up until now, the Bible of King Jacob wore the status of an approved, “authorized” by the king translation, although in fact it never received any royal “approval”.

In 2015, the priest of the parish church in Wrexham found one of the first copies of the King James Version of the Bible in 1611, the authenticity of which was confirmed by the National Library of Wales.

The need to create a new translation of the Bible was associated with an unstable situation in England, which now and then fluctuated between Catholicism and the Reformation. The throne was occupied by both supporters of Protestantism and supporters of Catholicism. As a result, there was competition between the Geneva Bible, published in Geneva in 1560 by the Scots and the English Calvinists, and the slightly popular Episcopal Bible, published by the Anglican Church of the time of Elizabeth I.

The question of creating a new translation of the Bible was posed to the king by a group of Puritans led by Rev. John Reynolds. To solve it, King Jacob I convened the so-called Hampton Court Conference in January 1604, where a number of mistakes were made in previous translations, primarily in the Episcopal Bible officially adopted by the Anglican Church, and it was decided to create a new translation.

47 translators - members of the Anglican Church were engaged in translation. The source for the translation of the New Testament, as for most other English translations of that time, was the Greek Textus Receptus. The Old Testament was translated from the Hebrew Masoretic texts.

The head of the New Testament translation into English was Thomas Rāvis. He was assisted by Henry Saville. The bible of King Jacob consists of 39 books of the Old Testament, 27 books of the New Testament and 11 books of the apocrypha.
