In the 1960s, Tony Ray-Jones managed to form a new look at British society. He used irony and a sense of humor. His photos are documentary. Ray-Jones said that his goal was to fix a specific British aura and unusual humor in ordinary situations.
In the period from 1966 to 1969, he created a series of works in which he displayed English customs and identity. Humorous, sometimes melancholic, photos of Tony Ray-Jones were different from all the others that appeared at that time.
In October 1968, in the issue of the magazine Creative Camera, he described his goal as follows: “I want to convey something about the spirit and mentality of the British, their habits and lifestyle, the irony present in their behavior, partly because of traditions, for the nature of their environment and their mentality."
