“The ancient settlement Skelka 1” in the Kherson region was damaged by unknown persons.
“The Skelka tract, remote from settlements, is an object of heightened interest. A significant part of the territory is distorted by predatory excavations. She is actually lost to science. The current state of the monument of archeology of national importance can only be assessed as an archeological catastrophe,” the Kherson regional organization of the National Union of Local History of Ukraine informs.
The barbaric actions of the unknown led to such a catastrophe. The unique object of cultural heritage can be completely destroyed.
At one time, this ancient settlement was part of the defense system of the Olbia State. Finds that were discovered here by archaeologists allow us to trace the life of the population, starting from the second half of the 6th century. BC E. up to III. n e.
The author of the discovery of the ancient settlement - Victor Goshkevich. It happened in 1895. In 1909 he conducted the first research here. Artifacts found on the territory of the settlement are kept at the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Nikolaevsky and Kherson regional museums of local history.
