At the National Museum of History of Ukraine presented a relic from the collection of the last hetman of Ukraine Pavel Skoropadsky - an icon of the XVII century "The Virgin of Vladimir".

The family of the hetman took the icon abroad in 1918. At first, the relic was kept by Pavel and Aleksandra Skoropadsky in Germany, and then by their youngest daughter Elena Ott-Skoropadskaya in Switzerland.

The icon was brought to Ukraine in early 2019. It belongs to the Stroganov school of icon painting (board, levkas, tempera) and is decorated with silver with gold-plated details of an unknown master.

Exactly how the Mother of God Vladimirskaya appeared in the collection of Pavel Skoropadsky is not known for sure. According to one version, he could get it as a family relic, which probably belonged to his ancestor, Hetman Ivan Skoropadsky. On the other hand, she could have fallen during the national liberation struggle in Ukraine in the 1917-1921s.

Anyone can see the relic for 2 weeks - from May 7 to 20.
