On May 27, 1937, the grand opening of one of the most beautiful bridges in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge, took place in San Francisco. This building connected the city of San Francisco and the southern part of the Cape Marin County.

Before the bridge was built, the only short route between San Francisco and the current Marin County was by boat through the waters of San Francisco Bay. The ferry service began as early as 1820, and it became regular in the 1840s to transport water to San Francisco.

Construction of the bridge began in 1933 and lasted more than 4 years. The initial design of the bridge was prepared by engineer Joseph Strauss and consultant architect Irving Morrow, who used art deco elements in the design.

Strauss supervised the construction of the bridge, but in reality the bridge was designed and executed by all the mathematical calculations for the bridge by an immigrant from Riga, Lev Moiseyev and Charles Alton Ellis. But due to the poor relations between them and Joseph Strauss, their names do not appear in the history of the construction of the bridge and are not inscribed in the name plate of the builders of the bridge on the south tower.

The Golden Gate Bridge became a symbol of San Francisco, which later appeared in a variety of films, computer games, logos, emblems. Its length was - 1970 meters, the height of the supports - 230 meters above the water, the distance from the roadway to the surface of the water - 67 meters.

Unfortunately, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most popular buildings in the world where people commit suicide. On average, with a bridge every two weeks, someone jumps into the water. For more than 70 years, according to unofficial data, more than 1,200 people have committed suicide by throwing themselves into the water. The bridge is very high, and even if a person swims well, it will still die by hitting the surface of the water.
