The disassembled Statue of Liberty, or the statue titled "Freedom that Illuminates the World", was delivered to New York by the French military sailboat Isere on June 18, 1885. It was created by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi as a gift for the hundredth anniversary of the American revolution.

This neoclassical sculpture is located in the United States on Liberty Island, located in Upper New York Bay about 3 kilometers southwest of the southern tip of Manhattan Island.

Conceived the monument of law professor Edouard Rene Lefevre de Labule. In 1856, he turned to Frederick Auguste Bartholdi. The creation of the sculpture was completed in France in May 1884, and in August in New York the first stone was laid in the pedestal of the future monument.

For transportation the statue was disassembled into 350 parts and packed in 214 boxes. Collected on a concrete stand for 4 months and opened on the island of Bedlo near Manhattan.

The Goddess of Freedom holds a torch in his right hand and a tablet in his left. The inscription on the plate is “JULY IV MDCCLXXVI” (July 4, 1776). This is the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The inauguration of the Statue of Liberty, at which President Grover Cleveland spoke, was held on October 28, 1886 in the presence of several thousand spectators. As a French gift for the centenary of the American Revolution, the Statue of Liberty was ten years late.

In 1984, the Statue of Liberty was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Now it is one of the most popular tourist sites in New York.
