Rare photos of mummies from the British Egyptologist's catalog

All the mummies, which are depicted in the photographs, at different times exhibited in the Cairo Egyptian Museum.

The author of the compilation is the British Egyptologist and anthropologist Grafton Eliot Smith, who added the mummies to his catalog in 1912. Anglo-Australian anthropologist and anatomist, studied medicine at the University of Sydney and Cambridge. He was a board member of St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, and Professor of Anatomy at Cairo Medical School, University of Manchester, and University College London.

This scientist was the first to apply the methods of comparative anatomy in order to study a prehistoric man. He led anthropological expeditions in the Nile Valley. Together with his student Raymond Dart, he found the remains of a Peking and South African prehistoric man.
