In the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk, now Kamenskoe, the tram hit the wall of the house on July 2, 1996. 34 people died, about 100 were injured.

In the car were 150 people. On a very steep descent near the tram, the braking system failed and the door was jammed. The car picked up speed and got off the rails, drove onto the roadway and collided with a low concrete barrier.

29 people died, more than 100 were hospitalized. The surgeons of the region operated on the victims all night long, but they could not save everyone. The death toll has risen to 34 people. The next day, mourning was declared in Ukraine.

The President expressed deep condolences to his relatives. A government commission was created. The commission named several causes of the disaster: depreciation of the car, lack of personnel — the 20-year-old graduate of the accelerated courses of tram drivers led the tram on this difficult route, the negligence of the depot management. Five days the city was in mourning - there was a funeral.

The city authorities perpetuated the memory of people who died in a terrible tragedy by installing a monument at the crash site, in the form of two parallel straight lines, chaotically bending at the top, symbolizing the tramway that was twisted as a result of a car.
