An old safe filled with money was handed over for scrap

About 6 weeks ago, 4 safes were handed over to the scrap metal reception center in the UK. It would seem, nothing unusual, the reception of safes for such places is a usual thing. But later the reception point staff was in for a surprise.

The safe disposal procedure involves cutting them. And on that day, besides the newly arrived four, eight safes were waiting for their hour.

When the turn came to the fourth safe in turn, the workers discovered one oddity: it was not empty. Inside were notes and coins, which for unknown reasons were not collected by the safe owner. According to preliminary estimates, there were 20,000 pounds sterling.

According to the manager of the reception center, Kevin Harrington, the money was in the safe for a long time, since it was already covered with dust. Many of them were visible negative effects of moisture.

“We often build safes, and we tend to keep them, because it’s quite difficult to deal with them. The money was in this safe for a long time, it was very dusty. We did not consider them all, but we assume that there were about 20,000 pounds sterling,” said Harringoton.

The manager went to the police to find the owner of the safe. But he was never found. The staff of the reception point made a decision: send all the funds found to charity.
