Church researcher Claudia Virgini discovered a unique artifact in the Church of St. Alexis on the Aventine Hill in Rome, Italy. It is a XII century fresco, which was hidden behind the wall. It depicts Jesus Christ and the saint, in whose honor the temple was named. The fresco is made on a black background and framed with a polychrome frame.

“During the construction of the church,” the researcher explains, “the fresco occupied the wall of the counter-facade in a prominent place, acting as the spiritual link between pagan and medieval Rome.”

In Rome, almost no such works of art. The researcher stumbled upon it by chance. She studied local archives and found a record of an official in 1985 that workers, during the fortification of the walls and the bell tower, found the mural in good condition and walled it up. However, there was no information about the church. The woman was looking for her on her own for some time

Some restoration work has already been carried out, in the near future the mural will be released from the cache. The value of the find lies in its almost millennial age. The height of the image of Jesus is 400 cm, width - 90 cm. Most of the frescoes are hidden behind the wall.
