An ancient burial site was found on the edge of the abandoned career of the Sumy region

The burial of a woman of the Baltic appearance of the era of the ancient Slavs was found by participants of the art festival of land art near the village of Mogritsa in Sumshchina.

The location is the right bank of the Psel River. In Soviet times, chalk was mined here. It was on the edge of an abandoned quarry that a Slavic burial site was opened. After the scientists completed the research work, the participants of land art wrapped the burial site with a decorative fence.

“These are the Siberian tribes that lived in this territory, and at the end of the tenth century they fall into the sphere of the Kiev princes, and this territory becomes already the territory of the state of Kievan Rus. It was here, on the border, that the Kiev princes built fortresses that became on the border of the state and state territory,” says Larisa Belinskaya, a researcher at the security archaeological service of Ukraine.

The burial was partially damaged by the quarry, the upper part of the skeleton and the jewelry remained. It is they who give information about the accessory and the date of the deceased. The remains were sent to Kiev.
