Under the altar of the Polish Church found more than a thousand coins

Polish archaeologists during excavations in Barchevo found under the old Church treasure. More than one thousand coins were under the altar – part in a ceramic mug, part – around it. In a detailed study it became clear that this coin in denominations of one, one and a half, three and six pennies – they depict Sigismund III, who ruled in the years 1587-1632. In addition to Polish coins here were Lithuanian money and Prussian shillings.

Many coins bear the traces of frequent use during circulation. One of the instances is worn around the neck, as evidenced by the made hole. Probably, the treasure was hidden by the monks, but the reasons for this action is not known.
