On 3 September 1650, the battle of Dunbar was fought, one of the most important battles of the English revolution. This battle was one of the most suitable opportunities for Scotland to gain independence. However, Oliver Cromwell and his army did not let this happen.
At first, the advantage was on the side of the Scots, who took a favorable position. In turn, Cromwell's soldiers did not have time to recover from the fighting in Ireland. Therefore, during the month continued large-scale maneuvers that ended in the battle in the Harbor at Dunbar. Cromwell waited until the enemy made a few tactical mistakes, and on the morning of September 3 went on the attack. In a few hours it was all over. As he argued the commander, his army managed to kill 3 thousand of the Scots, and another 10 thousand to capture.
