September 8 - Harvard University Foundation day

September 8, 1636 in Cambridge (USA) was founded Harvard University. 16 years earlier, in 1620, the construction of the Massachusetts settlement of Cambridge began here, and soon, on the instructions of the Supreme Court, it was decided to open a College here. A special contribution was made by Minister John Harvard, who donated 400 books to the local library.

In the first issue, there were only 9 people. Although the College did not belong to any one denomination, future graduates became clergymen. In 1708 secular education began to prevail. In the 18th century, ideas of Enlightenment and freethinking came to Harvard University. And in the 19th century, the education system is evolving, there is a rejection of traditionalist ideas.

In the 50s of the last century, scholarship programs were introduced to attract scientists and students. This gave impetus to the development of new research. The University's alumni were the presidents of the United States (Kennedy, J. Bush), leaders of other countries such as Peru, Colombia, Mongolia, other famous personalities: businessmen, members of Royal families.
