In the ancient Greek temple of Athens, located in Paestum (Italy), archaeologists have found a fragment of the head, which belongs to the late archaic period. Most of the head is made of Sandstone. Since the back part of the work is not finished, the researchers suggest that the object was a decorative element of the temple in which it was located.

Paestum was founded by Greek colonists around 600 BC and is known for several temples dedicated to Hera and Athena. Today, these buildings are among the best preserved ancient Greek temples of the period.
