On this day 101 years ago, France, Britain and Germany signed an agreement on the cessation of hostilities between the Entente and Germany. This event is known in history as the first armistice of Compiegne, and on the same day the First world war was completed. After signing the document, Germany began to disarm – in accordance with the document, the Entente passed 5 thousand guns, 30 thousand machine guns, 2 thousand aircraft and other equipment.

The armistice took effect at 11 o'clock, and the document was signed in the early morning, in 5 hours 10 minutes. This event took place in Marshal Foch's railway carriage in the forest of Compiegne. In 1940, the second armistice of Compiegne was concluded in the same carriage, this time on unfavorable terms for France. In 1945, the car was burned by German soldiers on Hitler's orders.
