At Christie's auction in new York was sold a masterpiece by Belgian artist Rene Magritte - painting "Sixteenth of September", created in 1957. The value of the lot rose to 19.6 million dollars – at this price, the product was purchased by the buyer, who conducted the auction by phone. At the same time, the final price was twice as high as expected. The painting became the most expensive lot among other 52 works of art in the modernism segment, the total cost of which was 191.9 million dollars.

"Sixteenth of September" was the largest picture that Rene Magritte painted. The dimensions of the canvas are 162x130,2 cm. in 2005, the work has already appeared at Sotheby's auction, but then it was never bought.
