In January of this year, archaeologists found an ancient measuring device in Jerusalem - a table with which it was possible to accurately measure the amount of poured liquids: wine or olive oil. The stone artifact was discovered in the city of David, the oldest populated area of Jerusalem. The find indicates that there was once a market here.
This equipment was used two thousand years ago, and the table belonged to the owner of the market. Merchants came to him, divided the goods into equal portions, and only then could they trade. These tables contain special holes and recesses for measuring containers.
Now the excavations in the city of David are actively criticized by the Palestinians, who believe that the archaeological research lies behind the attempts of the Israelis to strengthen their control in the area. Today, it is home to an Arab district and dozens of Jewish families.
