The Hunterian collection is one of the most famous collections Of the University of Glasgow. It contains 650 manuscripts, about 10 thousand printed books, and 15 thousand samples of natural objects. About a third of all books are devoted to medicine, and there are historical works by authors such as Hippocrates, Galen, and Vesalius. A special place is occupied by the numismatic Department, which has 30 thousand copies.
The collection was collected by William hunter (1718-1783), who bought most of the items in Paris, Vienna, and Italy. 22 thousand pounds were spent on coins. This collection is one of the largest collections collected by an individual. The vast majority of coins are Greek and Roman rarities. Among them there are special copies, for example, one of the coins of ancient Athens was given to hunter by king George III.
