In the depths of the Font Major cave in Spain, scientists have found many ancient drawings that are 15 thousand years old. Archaeologists conducted the study for the first time since the flood that occurred in October last year. It is noteworthy that the drawings were not even searched for, and saw them by accident.

In total, there are about a hundred drawings, including images of various animals: deer, horses, and wolves that lived in this part of Europe. Many works resemble abstract art – they are so schematically drawn. Historians have suggested that this cave was a religious sanctuary. Probably, various ceremonies were held here, and the images on the walls contained some kind of sacred meaning.

According to the researchers, the cave is unlikely to open to the General public. All drawings are made on a soft layer of silt, and a few careless touches can cause irreparable damage. That is why the opening was not immediately announced, securing the site and declaring it a cultural property.
