The us postal service has introduced a series of 10 stamps that depict orchids. The issue was named "Wild orchids forever". Artistic Director Ethel Kessler developed the stamps based on photographs taken by James A. Fowler. The stamps show the following types of flowers: Cypripedium californicum, Hexalectris spicata, Cypripedium reginae, Spiranthes odorata, Platanthera grandiflora, Cyrtopodium polyphyllum, Calopogon tuberosus and Platanthera leucophaea, Triphora trianthophoros (two versions of the image).

Stamps are available in two formats: in the form of a booklet that contains two sets (20 pieces), and in the form of coils of 3-10 thousand copies each. All flowers that adorn postal products grow in the United States. In total, there are more than 25 thousand species of wild orchids in the world. Interestingly, Fowler himself, who became interested in orchids thanks to his great-grandmother, who worked as a botanist in the Department of agriculture, has long been interested in philately.
