Polish archaeologists and ethnologists during excavations in Sudan came across previously unknown areas of the ancient city of Soba. Thanks to the new discovery, historians will be able to expand their knowledge of what life was like in North Africa during the middle Ages. Once upon a time, Soba was the capital of Alwa, a Christian state that was previously located in the center and South of present-day Sudan.

Archaeologists suggest that the total area of the city was about 200 hectares. The newly discovered area covers approximately 20 hectares. One part of the area was densely built up, as evidenced by the many ruins. In addition, the road network is clearly visible. In the other part were larger buildings.

Most of the buildings in Soba were built of wood, clay bricks, then the houses were covered with plaster. Among the artifacts at the site, numerous fragments of dishes were found. The wreckage is decorated with rich decor in the form of drawings and engravings. The inscriptions are in Greek. Now the findings are stored in the laboratory, where scientists determine their exact age.
