The capital of Estonia, Tallinn, is located in the North of the country, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Due to its location, the settlement became a major shopping center in the middle ages. Today it is one of the best preserved medieval European cities, which is included in the UNESCO world heritage list. Throughout its history, Tallinn belonged to different States, having survived the Danish, Swedish, Russian, and Soviet periods. These images were taken in the summer of 1976 by photographer Timo Heinonen.
