Bulgaria has issued a coin with the image of a ritual action

The Bulgarian national Bank presented a silver coin, the theme of which is the national custom of kukeri. The new product is called "Bulgarian traditions and love". Production of coins was carried out at the enterprise in Sofia. The obverse depicts participants in a ritual dance in masks, as well as the name of the custom and the name of the coin. On the reverse side is the Bulgarian coat of arms, the nominal value of 10 levs, the name of the country. Next to the nominal value, the year of production is indicated – 2020. The coin is made of 999 silver and has a circulation of 3 thousand copies. Weight of the specimen – 23.3 g, diameter – 38.6 mm.

The kukeri ceremony takes place during Shrovetide and includes traditional game scenes. The action is performed exclusively by men who are dressed in skins and masks decorated with horns, mirrors, and feathers. The purpose of the ritual is to summon forces that will contribute to a rich harvest during the year.
