Duluth is the administrative center of St. Louis County in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In the nineteenth century, Duluth was one of the fastest growing cities in the country. However, rapid development slowed down after the stock market crash in 1873. In the late 70s, the city began to grow again thanks to mining. Many European migrants arrived here in the early twentieth century in search of work and new opportunities. A significant economic downturn began in the 1950s due to the emergence of a crisis in the metallurgical industry. In these photos, you can see the landscapes of Duluth in the first half of the last century.
