In Palau, a coin was issued with the image of an amulet that protects against the evil eye. Numismatic novelty received a very dark name – "Evil Eye". The first mention of this superstition refers to the ancient world (Greece and Ancient Rome). In the Ottoman Empire, it was believed that an envious glance brought bad luck. To protect yourself from it, special amulets were invented that reflect the harmful effects of the evil eye. The amulet is depicted in the form of concentric circles – in the center is a blue or yellow spot with a black dot, and on the periphery – a white or blue circle.

The coin face value is 5 dollars. It was issued in an edition of 2500 copies and is made of 999 silver. The coin depicts the symbol of the amulet described above. The colored fragment occupies most of the coin, and there are no inscriptions. On the reverse side is the coat of arms of Palau, the name of the country and the nominal value.
