In Cameroon, a coin was issued with the image of a sculptural group called "Laocoon and his sons". The new edition of 500 copies is made at the Polish mint, which has been operating in Warsaw since 1766. The coin is made of 999 silver and contains gold elements – the bodies of snakes entangling human figures. The Central three - dimensional image stands out against the background of the surface. The diameter of one copy is 45 mm, the nominal value is 2000 francs. The coin was issued as part of the "Masterpieces of sculptural art" series.
The work "Laocoon and his sons" is a marble composition created in the first century BC. Sculpture is a copy made on the basis of the original bronze, which has not been preserved to this day. The composition depicts Laocoon, a priest of the God Apollonian, and his sons fighting with snakes during the Trojan war. The marble sculpture was found in 1506 in Rome, in the place where the Golden house (Domus Aurea) Nero's. In the same year, it was given to Pope Julius II, who ordered the installation of the composition in the Belvedere Palace, one of the Vatican museums. The work served as the basis for the creation of other copies, one of which is located in Odessa, in front of the building of the archaeological Museum.
