Birmingham is one of the largest cities in the UK, which experienced an economic boom in the 1930s. Over the course of several years, the city's borders expanded several times, and Birmingham absorbed the surrounding areas. At the same time, the city Council decided to build new modern housing. More than 60,000 new homes were built throughout the city. In addition, the Institute of fine arts was opened. These images capture the daily life of the inhabitants of Birmingham.
